Since I was the one who posted the story in the first place, I will delete the thread if it becomes political and/or heated. Let's honour the service of the Scottish regiments and keep politics away from the forum.

Quite right, Todd.
The "Regiments" have kept their names anyway, even though at Batallion strength as part of the RSR. Not sure why "Royal" would raise any hackles(pun intended ), seeing as all but 2 of the originals were "Royal" to begin with.

From my mediterranean eyes,... it seems to be a sad day as well....maybe now the officers of the new regiment must do whatever they can to keep their spirit. Maybe every batallion should keep their tartans and simbols as they had before,... and,... on the other side,... maybe we can see it again as an scottish army reunited,.... anyway,... I'm now sure that volunteering will go a little bit down...
Let's honour them, as far as we can.... and let's also honour some of us who are serving in Irak, Afganistan, Kosovo, Bosnia, etc,... from Spain, Finland, France, England, Wales, USA, Scotland,... buff,... too many guys out there.
¡Salud!

In a short time they'll be wondering where the recruits are and why there are fewer reups. Take away the traditions and effectively eliminate unit identification and morale goes down, effectivness goes down and kids stop thinking about joining up.The US Army Rangers still haven't recovered from the loss of their traditional black beret and that tradition was nowhere near as long standing as the Scottish Regiments.
