I ordered the fabric - its Lochcarron Mills 16oz Strome - its available through several US vendors. Once I got the fabric, it was off to the kiltmaker for them to work their magic.

Something about the feel and look about a traditional Kilt that just emits elegance. That is one fine looking Kilt and tartan. Well done Phil and ????

Wow, that's just a beautiful kilt and tartan (I must admit, I've been looking *hard* at the Isle of Skye tartan for a kilt)! I'm glad you "get" the whole tank thing...particularly since you just got one .
Bryan...enjoy-it looks great...

Phil,
Great looking kilt! I am hoping to add a tank to my kilt kollection this year. That is one beautiful tartan.

Wow, that's a fine looking kilt. I really like the Isle of Skye tartan, and think I will add one to my collection one day to honor my visit there. Your kiltmaker has done a wonderful job.
There really is nothing like a traditional handsewn Scottish Kilt is there. You need to own one to actually understand that though, don't you. I thought I understood, but after I got my traditional, everything else paled in comparison.
Congratulations.

Great looking kilt - by a very good "amateur" kiltmaker. What caused you to choose "pleated to the stripe" using the center of the background color block? It gives a very soothing, earthy tone to the pleats, without all the busy-ness of a centered overcheck. I can understand the kiltmaker's request for protection; he or she probably has a job or career that precludes fulltime kiltmaking - at least, for now, and has only enough time to practice the craft for true devotees. You must be very special.
