If the MOD, in their infinite wisdom  , were to dump the names, etc., the new Regiment would drop to nil strength within a couple of years. Even the MOD aren't that stupid.

---The KOSB and Black Watch held ceremonies in Northern Ireland, while The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders marked the event in Canterbury, Kent. ---
The regiments couldn't even bring themselves to mark the occassion on there own soil. A terrible loss of tradition, identity and individuality. The people of Scotland must surely feel this as a step closer to incorporation into a faceless and disempowering entity and one away from national persona, strength and pride.
Sadly, Erin.

Each Regiment (or detachment thereof) had their ceremonies where they are based. Just so happens, some are headquartered outside of Scotland.

I can say with all honesty that, like many others, I've done all I can to halt and/or reverse this sad and seemingly unstoppable spiral downward the MOD cutback campaign slipped into some time back. Unfortunately despite the best efforts of so many concerned individuals and organizations around the world during this entire ordeal, we are finally seeing the death throws of what was once some of the most prestigious and respected regiments the world over.
I seriously doubt that it will be left as is, and can wager with much confidence that, even at the battalion level, we will see a complete and total submersion of the past Scottish regimental identities within the British Armed Forces. Hopefully the applicable regimental museums and alumni associations will be able to sustain funding to carry the torch for posterity.
My Clans: Guthrie, Sinclair, Sutherland, MacRae, McCain-Maclachlan, MacGregor-Petrie, Johnstone, Hamilton, Boyd, MacDonald-Alexander, Patterson, Thompson. Welsh:Edwards, Williams, Jones. Paternal line: Brandenburg/Prussia.
Proud member: SCV/Mech Cav, MOSB.

Apparently its just me that does not see this as some great conspiracy against the Scottish Regiments. Every single branch of the UKDF has taken massive hits. Army, Navy and Air Force. Regiments of whatever background have been dispanded. Squadrons in all locations have been dispanded. New ships (required) have been cancelled or scaled down.
Tony Bliar has made his decision. Those in uniform must go to more places, more often, with less kit and money. Everybody. This is NOT a "dump the Scots" issue. Everybody is being screwed.

X-marks regiment?
I would like to propose, in honor of these regiments, that we form our own "regiment", similiar to the 501st Imperial Legion 501st Imperial Legion . While theirs is one based on a movie and costumes, we can create our own "regiment" with companies all over the world, in an attempt to uphold some of the traditions.
While this may be a rather huge undertaking, I am completley willing to get the ball rolling.
anyone else have any ideas?

I'm posting the following in the hopes that people will understand the position of the majority of those in the new Royal Scottish Regiment. This from a currently serving Company Sergeant-Major:
The serving soldiers and officers deserve your support and the support of the country from now on. It is unfair on those young men intent on joining the Army that they must listen and read abuse of their generals and criticism of their commanders about a situation over which they had no control. Those who have served in Scottish regiments are fiercely proud of their heritage and will take forward their pride to the new regiment.
Perhaps you should concentrate on the RRS not forgetting its antecedents? Although clearly that too would be a wasted effort, since they, as every other amalgemated regiment across the BRITISH Army, will not.
So, give them the support they so richly deserve and let the past continue on into the future. The Regiments, as they were, are GONE. The Royal Scottish is now amongst us. Long live the Royal Scottish Regiment!!

Yes, they are and soon so will the traditions and esprit de corps that went with them.I expect before long we'll hear crying about lack of enlistments and inadequate reups. So passes the historical spearhead of the British army.

Bubba, no doubt not your intent, but with this comment you have insulted each and every serving Officer and NCO of the Royal Scottish Regiment.
