As one needs to put the sgian dubh in his checked luggage, I'd say leave your favorite ones at home, not wearing one at your destination. If you need do one to complete your outfit, get a hold of sgian dubh you don't mind losing just in case your bag is ransacked or lost.

If you don't have any checked luggage then you may want to consider one of the safety Sgian dbuhs without a blade. Another alternative would be to have it overnighted to your destination.

My dirk has been to Scotland and back, twice. Checked luggage, in a sheath and wrapped in bubble wrap so it cannot possibly injure a luggage handler. It's not been a problem yet.
