			McCallum bagpipes have arrived!

My brother and I have been taking lessons on the practice chanter for about a year now, and we ordered our first set of pipes recently. Well, they've arrived from Scotland and are we doing the happy dance! It's even better than getting a new kilt (well, about the same). Now comes the hard part - getting all that air through them. Our faces look like this . Our wives are, well . . .,. . . at least they're not discouraging us. Anyway, just wanted to share our excitement! Heh! I remember my first time on the pipes - jaw aching, pulse pounding, lungs sobbing for air as I tried to get through a complete scale ... I thought to myself "What have I gotten myself into?" Good luck on the transition - keep working at it and you'll get it.

Please say that the transition isn't that bad if one is motivated and has time (!)

Congratulations! I envy you having got that far
I've only had my chanter for a week, and fully understand one needs patience (!) Still, it is a great feeling of achievement - never having played an instrument in my life - to be able to get through Twinkle Twinkle Little Star; and now aiming to have some control over Amazing Grace by end of Easter.

Good luck - and any pictures coming our way?

Thanks, guys. My brother and I both have good wind (he's brown belt karate and I cycle and distance run) but the pipes give us both a head rush from the air they take! We'll persevere, though, because we've wanted to do this for a long time. Thanks for the forum references, too.

David, I am envious! I was supposed to start lessons this month, but my teacher has had to leave town for work, so I am looking for a new instructor today. I am thinking of buying kitchen pipes as my first set when I actually have a clue what I am doing.
