undergarments to wear while hiking kilted

On my upcoming annual excursion into the wilds of northern massachusetts, I will be forced to abandon going regimental as I will be hiking with a great many 7th graders up very steep hills. The possibility of someone seeing up the kilt is nearly 100%.

What undergarments would you suggest be worn 'neath the kilt? it will be very hot, probably rain at least once. I know how bad cotton can be.

    Any help would be great.

    thanks.

    You might want to try:

any dark colour is less obvious and the micro fibers help chafing.
You can also check the local Wally*World they are only 6-7 USD.

Underarmor. Great stuff, wicking and works like bicycle shorts without the pad. You have two colors to choose from: Black or white. On the trail, I'd go with black.

For work, where an accidental exposure could be a messy situation, I wear loose fitting tartan boxer shorts from WalMart.

They're loose, so the comfort of the kilt isn't lost.

They're tartan, so should they be exposed its a Scottish look to compliment the kilt.

    They're inexpensive and lightweight.

Go for a bit of flair, I say, and try red silk boxers. That way, someone can suggest to the children that if they're looking your direction during a climb, and they see a flash of red, they're observing you much too closely, and the trail not closely enough...

I'd suggest looking at the web pages for Campmor and Sierra Trading post...notably Campmor. They always have "wicking" underwear on sale...I would expect that the problem with cotton is that it gets damp and hold the moisture near the skin...the wicking stuff is supposed to....well...wick it away.
