Bear in mind that a Stillwater size 40 is a size 40 with the straps in the tightest hole, not the center hole like other kilts. So, the 40 will adjust out to about 41 and a half, but not smaller. The 38 should adjust to just under 40. My size 44 Stillwaters are about a perfect fit in the middle holes.
