I don't wear suspenders either. I have several Regimental kilts that have buttons for suspenders. I'd really like to see a pic of kilts worn with suspenders though.
Here's a pic of the buttons on one of them.

There's an advert on UK TV at the moment with a hunk in a kilt with braces - that is suspenders here.

The ad is for Cadbury's Creme eggs.

I have one tank that I wear suspenders with. I find it most comfortable and doesn't slip down over my non-existent hips. My new Scot in-laws give me static and always correct me on the terminology as "suspenders" in the UK are apparently the same as ladies' garter belts in the US.

    what?!?

I did a double take when I first saw this post. This is because 'suspenders' in Britain are what the ladies hold their stockings up with. The vision of a burly bloke in a kilt, black stockings and suspenders almost caused a mental meltdown!

Anyway, on British TV there's an advert running for Cadbury's cream eggs. One of the scences shows a big fella in a white jumper, grey kilt and braces. He is cutting his egg with an axe while his adoring girl looks on. A really positive image of a kilted man, Hoorah!!

The buttons on the ex-mil kilts might also be for matching with the old battldress jackets. The jackets had buttonholes on the lower hem lining for buttoning to trousers, due to the shortness of the jackets. Could be dual purpose.

I always wear suspenders, with both kilt and pants.
My waist is bigger than my hips, so they fall down
otherwise. I suppose a really tight belt would
keep them up. Sounds comfortable doesn't it? (not)
