Wow, what a pic, we had some big time storms rip through here last night. My 7yr old son was totally wigged out. The lightning was enough to light up our entire family room and we lost power twice in a span of about 15 minutes. The power was not off but for a few minutes each time but the thunder and lightning was really heavy, vibrated some walls, freaked the dog out...

    Staying dry,

    Todd

We were on the northern fringe of that storm the other night. Little town of Chilton lost power from downed lines and a few trees went down. Where I am we got a fireworks show and it sounded like massed artillery.

I was walking home several years ago in the city - we had gotten out of work early because of the intensity of the storm (and I live in Boston, so you know the storm must have been BAD). I was a block away from home, and I heard this strange, deep bass popping sound coming from beneath my feet. Suddenly I saw the sidewalk move right below where I was about to put my foot. I jumped back, and a tree to my left fell, its roots ripping up through the sidewalk just in front of me. It fell across the road, crushing two parked cars across the street. I just stood there not believing my eyes - this all happened within about three seconds.

Amazing stuff, the weather. Can't believe I'm about to go live in Nature for half a year.

    Andrew.

Climate is what you expect, weather is what you get.

I was really lucky one year. As the edges of a hurricane (I don't remember which one) passed through the area, there was a lot of high wind. Between where i park my car and my house, there is about an eight foot space. The wind took the top out of the tree in my front yard, and the top happened to land right in between the car and the house. The only damage I sustained was a small dent in the gutter. It could just as easily have punched a hole in the roof or landed right on top of the car.

Glad to hear that the worst parts missed you.
I've been through one hurricane (Andrew), and have seen firsthand the aftermath of most of the ones since. I'm still amazed at what wind alone can do.

Just checked an old biology book I had left over from school...and am a bit confused...

can you point out where exactly the "gutter" that was dented is? It isn't listed in the anatomy section.
