very simular to the 'gang colors' posted by Riverkilt - it ties me to something larger than myself, a long and proud history. And by being a part of that, may be all the good of the past washes away the harm I've done and gives meaning to the otherwise life of obscurity that I'm leading...may be a little to deep for this early on a Saturday morning, aye??

I have always liked Tartan plaids. Even before I discovered a Clan connection and decided to wear Kilts. “Ordinary” plaids just aren’t the same. The repeating patterns that create new designs when overlaid. It’s cool.
BTW, andyfg, my grandfather was born raised in Newcastle. He was a Coalminer who immigrated here and became a Coalminer in Pennsylvania. We may be related!

Anything's possible, but I was born and raised in Manchester. Didn't move to Newcastle area until 1984.

Sounds like a little existentialist angst, Tim. But, perhaps you've hit on something. The tartan completes authentic Existenz. The total answer to a life of meaningless drudgery! I perceive a new school of thought coming to birth . . . tartan existentialism.

let's see if I can unwrench my skull from the single malt last night.....
Tartan..what it does for me...
Ties me back to a family spanning hundreds of years, with great accomplishments and proud warriors
Prevents me from lazily lurking in the shadows, keeps me on my toes.
Allows me to be myself, and to stand out when I don't want to be one of the sheep in the herd.
Gives me a sense of pride, knowing that the tartan kilt not only represents my family, it also represents the proud heritage of a strong people.

That ending bought a hearty chuckle from me Andy, thanks for sending it anyway.
I have to say I'm not attracted to every tatan. Some are just nasty! well that's to me and no doubt wonderful to others. But P1M said it was the colours. Good point; males have a longer history of "adornment" that women do to my knowledge. Perhaps some of our historians can shed some light on this. We must be a vain lot!
