Nope, sometimes I just throw them as-is, the tang of a big heavy file sticks fairly well, otherwise I just grind a suitable point and start throwing. I don't finish/polish or anything like that.

Nope, but I'm sure you'll let us know after you do it!

Trial and error. Some antlers have thicker "walls" than others.
Important note: if you're drilling or sawing bone or antler, wear a mask. Don't breathe the dust. It's bad for you.

Sorry. I do a number of classes on different subjects, and I get to play with obscure period dyes and pigments, too.
Given the nature of many of these substances, I'm surprised that the human race has lasted as long as it has.
(Antimony, bone dust, arsenic, flint chips in the eyes....)
I figure it's better to warn people, so we only lose the ones who're stupid and educate the ones who're just ignorant.

GDG, certainly it's amazing how resilient we as a human race seem to be. That said I've seen some nasty stuff come down within my my prof. peers and don't wish it upon myself.
Are you aware of anything in particar within these (afore mentioned) dusts that I best be aware of? ' Safe than sorry hey!

The problem with bone dust and other fine silica dusts is that they're highly abrasive - get any in your eyes or lungs, and the little bit just start shredding soft tissue.
Goggles and a respirator. Please.
