...thanks for the swatch...I guess that I'd ask if it's as "brown" of a red as it looks on my monitor...I know that monitors vary widely...as I mentioned earlier, some reds look more magenta, some more purple...there's a variation. And many fabrics look different when they're indoors or out in sunlight. In a previous life, I shot a lot of catalog pages for Sears and the towels particularly drove us all nuts...the dyes changed under different types of light (tungsten or strobe) and that was long before Photoshop came along and made it all easy.

I mean, I'm not trying to be argumentive but I've had things that are just off enough in the color area that they don't go with other things in the outfit...ties, shirts, etc. Sometimes a miss is as good as a mile.

    OKay, try this:

    http://www.sportkilt.com/ezcart/stylechart/HMER.jpg

Copy that into any graphics program you have, and tile it, then full-screen it.

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for here, folks have given you descriptions, too. They're only eight bucks, and I'm assuming Sportkilt has a return policy, maybe you should just bite the bullet and see if they match 'in the flesh', you know?

(sorry, that sounded cranky, I'm having a rough day, I didn't mean for it to.)

Just got an email back from Seamus at Sportkilt.

He describes it "Merlot is just like a dark cranberry juice color (red). "

    Thanks for everyone's help...

Ron, here are some pics. The first 2 are without flash and the second 2 with flash. All pics were taken outside, on a white PVC picnic table on our porch, in the late evening. The sun had not set yet, and as you can tell from the flashless pictures, it was still light enough for most work. I left the camera on auto and it did not think it dark enough to. For reference, thoe hose are (l to r and using SK's color names), Green (Forest) (and fairly bright!), Merlot, White, Maroon, and Red. You can also see some everyday items in the picture to try and give a color comparison, e.g. the flower pots, yellow and orang bottles of bubbles, etc.. Hope this helps. If you have ever partaken of Sangria, I would say that the Merlot hose are very perfect match to Sangria, perhaps a hair lighter.

Oh, and you can tell by the wrappings that I have yet to wear the merlot, maroon, or red hose! The merlot and maroon, I may find a use for someday, but the red (and the green too) are very bright. Great for the holidays or special occasions (I almost wore the red to my office Xmas party with the Scottish National kilt), but not for every day wear (at least for me).
