Dale,
I remember when I ordered my first kilt on January 25th (Burn's Night, how appropriate). Going over the Utilikits website I had no question about which one I was going to order, the gray Mocker. I can't understand why the gray wasn't more popular. I'm just glad I got mine before it was discontinued.
When I talk to people about my Utilikit and the subject of sporrans comes up, I just smile and stuff my hands into my pockets and then say "this is a modern kilt, don't need one". My advice. If their standard length works for you I would wait a bit, save some more, and then buy not only a sporran but also a Standard Acrylic kilt from Stillwater. Keep an eye on their auctions (they actually give you a link from their store to their current offerings on ebay). I really enjoy my Hunting McCleod from them, and really want a Royal or Black Steward as well.
I wear my Utilikilt with pride for what it is (OK, OK, with the hose and flashes, but that's my hang up), a modern kilt. I wear my tartan kilts for what they are, traditional kilts. I'm happy with both.
But the all important thing is how you feel when you are dressed up and heading out the door. That attitude is what will pull off the outfit, and is more important than what a bunch of posts advise.
Cheers
