Welcome from the neighboring county. I only have one black kilt, and it is a Stillwater heavyweight. I don;t know how cool it would be, but I'm considerug wearing it next month at the Potomac Celtic Fest in Leesburg.

I went to the Potomac Fest a couple of years ago. You know, when all the cicadas were flying about. Dive-bombing you in the head and all. I was there. But, for the LONG drive, I wasn't very impressed. Don't get me wrong. It was decent. Just not THAT good enough to me, to drive all the way up there for all it was then. I left after being there about 3 hours, feeling like, "Why did I come up here for just this?" It just came across to me like everything was being rushed. Kind of like, "OK. Here's yer stuff. Get in and get out. Just give us your money and go, or dont even look at our stuff. Just hurry up folks. We have to go to the next event to rip off you poor people in quick-time. Smell ya later." Kind of belligerant, in a way.
I think I'll just keep going to the Richmond Highland Games and Celtic Festival.

I have liked the solid black kilt ever since I saw some a few years ago at the Highland Games in Antigonish, NS. It was the encouragement to buy the Stillwater Heavyweight. Good decision. Looks great with a khaki shirt or just about any other color for that matter.
It has a nice slimming effect too. (to spouse - Does this make my butt look too big?)
By the way the games in Antigonish, NS are a really nice three day festival during July if anyone is up that way. I'll miss them this year since I will be at Grandfather Mt. for the first time and a choice had to be made. Next year Antigonish for my third visit. It's hard to beat Nova Scotia if you like the outdoors.
Cheers! Bill

I read an article a few years ago about Bedouins (SP), that tried to scientifically figure out if the ones wearing white robes were cooler than the ones wearing black robes. It turned out that the black robes were cooler, for two reasons one, because they absorbed body heat rather than reflect it back to the wearer, and secondly the black actually had diffrent currents of air underneath. Before anyone asks, I don't have any reference to this. It was something I read years ago.

Lookin' good. I have a black UK also and mostly black t-shirts, and I found whether your wearing all black or not, wearing a cilt really keeps you cool.

Black in the sun?
No !!!
I made the mistake of traveling in a black watch kilt a few years ago and found myself on the sunny side of the train. The train was full, so I could not change seats, and it was one of the hottest journeys I have ever made -- because of the the dark cloth, not because of the season. dark trousers would have been even more uncomfortable, i suppose.
Highlandcelt looks great, but I don't envy him his outfit.
