For ultimate versatility, it's hard to beat a medium-gray tweed jacket.

I'll give my vote to the Navy argyll jacket. I just think the color would go well with just about anything.

I think Navy is your best choice.

I'd agree with Panache well because he has panache. Otherwise black wll do, it goes with everything. Unless you wish to spend your kilt money on jackets, then matching colors is a great idea. That probably was no use at all, but, it's free.

Considering the Army's most recent decision on uniforms, the navy becomes even more appropriate:

I always liked the dress blues, soon to become the standard Army service uniform, but I never had the occasion or desire to spend the money on the extra uniform.

Huzzah! It's nice to see that. Personally, I've always liked the "army blue", so it's nice to the Army recognizing its history and association with blue as a uniform colour.

Got the official notification of the adoption of the new uniform in the e-mail this morning. The mandatory posession date is not till 2011. I'll be retired. Already got a set of Blues though. If the mess jacket is still an option I may have to get one of those to be a little different. Definately think the navy would look good with the Army tartan.

That's where I learned of the change too. Since I'm an Army civilian, I'm on all the email lists for announcements. It looks like they're doing away with the green and white service uniforms. As near as I can tell, the mess dress uniforms are still going to be in use.
