I train at Combat Ju-Jitsu over by the VA hospital/airport. Great group of people, very reasonable rates. Been there 8 years, we do standup and take it to the ground, all that good stuff. LOTS of ground grappling. You should check it out if you are not locked in at Kali, you can try a class for free. combat-jujitsu.com

By the way, I trained in Karate for 1year and on monday when I started the CSW class, I had to adapt to Muay-Thai style kicks which are very different...Karate seems to be very snappy and precise, but Muay-Thai is not snappy and has a lot of follow through for hard kicks that off balance your opponent, also Muay-thai kicks seem a little faster to me. The grappling is probably my favorite part of the class, but I have only been there once, so no final decisions; I am 5'7" 140lbs, so grappling seems to suit me better than striking...
Anyhow, Do you still practice martial arts in Minneapolis? Where?
PS: i am not sure if where is correct grammar, I'll never figure out were, where, their, there etc and the list goes on...
Here is a quick clip of CSW, I dont like the music, but it shows a good preview of CSW
Combat Submission Wrestling
and...just browse through the weird ones for the real csw...

I'm in with the Martial arts crowd. I study Wado Ryu as the traditional side but we do a lot of Brazilian Ju Jitsu, Muai Tai, TKD, Ultimate fighting, Continous fighting. I'm a member of our competition team. I compete in Kata, self defence, open kata, weapons, open weapons and point sparring(kumite).
I'm also very into spending time with my wife and 2 kids. We have little spare time but enjoy it together.
I enjoy the summer highland games schedule with celtic rock music and pints, scotch and good fun.

Wow! I was just thinking of practicing jiujistu there. My mom got a bit concerened as its called "combat jiujitsu", she thinks its like combat orienteated street fighting. I just found the website in the Mpls/St. Paul phone book and I looked at it on sunday last week....oh, I gotsa a question...
Is this trad Japanese Jiujitsu or Brazilian Jiujitsu (BJJ)? I was under the impression that Japanese style was standing up and required more strength and that BJJ was a ground grappling style, all the grappling is confusing as they all have similar moves/positions/ Takedowns/ submissions and chokes with different philosphies and variations. I am gonna go to Kali, i like the mix of striking and grappling...but I should check it out sometime this summer. What hours do you train? How about I come kilted?

Apart from that I'd say different cultures histories and languages as well as the pole and clothing. Genealogy and history interest me a lot, as does rugby (football is ok).
As well as various types of bladed weapondry, from the smallest knife to the largest great-sword.
Apart from that I like to chill/hang out with my mates.
Hey Master Boid!
What is Systema, and Docre Pares?
It seems we are intrested in the same things...culture, language, history, martial arts etc.

My family is my #1 other interest. Beyond that: Music, I play the guitar, a little mandolin (I know, aren't all mandolins little?) penny whistles and sing as well as just listening to a wide variety of music from Classic to roots music. I'd like to learn the pipes. I like to fly kites, especially two line stunt kites. I'm part of a martial arts academy studying both Scottish Broadsword and Shito-ryu Karate. (I'm just a rookie) I like to airbrush, I've been know to airbrush just about anything that stands still, from "t" shirts to bodies. I've dabbled in most art forms. Obviously, from my web name, I like motorcycles and have been active in leadership roles with H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group)

Indeed it seems we are!
Sorry, my spelling is bad, its Doce Pares here's a link:
Doce Pares site
Systema on the other hand is a Russian combat orientated MA:
Systema
Systema UK
Most of the strikes an drills are amazingly odd looking, if a little unuseful but I usually just use what can be used in a situation, despite how bad it may look.

Most MA's emphasise technique over strength, BJJ is more a Vale Tudo type form of traditional JJ used by many MMA'tists...though obviously if you don't have some muscle behind it it usually doesn't work.

That's absolutely correct. And "Combat Submission Wrestling" sounds nicer to her?
Just out of curiosity, how old are you?

It's called Kosen Ju-Jitsu, (Sometimes called Kosen Judo, but we do striking that Kosen Judo and BJJ does not). Most of the Kosen techniqes are done on the ground. BJJ has its roots in the Kosen style, see http://www.kobukaijujitsu.com/sensei6.html We have been teaching stuff similar to BJJ since the late 1950's!
I was under the impression that Japanese style was standing up and required more strength and that BJJ was a ground grappling style, all the grappling is confusing as they all have similar moves/positions/ Takedowns/ submissions and chokes with different philosphies and variations. I'm lucky if I make it twice a week lately. I don't wear a kilt there, I pretty much always ride my motorcycle. You would certainly be welcome in a kilt, as long as you have a sense of humor.
We do lots of striking stuff, both standing and on the ground. One of our black belts has trained with Royce Gracie, and a lot of our students cross-train at other places. Anyway, this is probably not the place to continue this discussion, stop in sometime if you have more questions.
