The maximum length of the entries is 7 min (mine is 6:17), so the screening should be over at around 10:45 or earlier, and frankly nothing stopping you from leaving earlier. We tend not to take the screenings too seriously since most of us just make these films for fun, even though it is a contest. Best guess 3-4 will be good to great, 5-6 will be mediocre, 1-2 will be bad but over quickly, and a 50/50 chance one will suck so much you will wish you were dead (this is when you go and get drinks) .

Adam, congratulations on making it through! I wish that I had been closer, I would have tried out for the lead and I would have brought my own kilt, or maybe kilts depending on the story!

Wil you be able to publish a link to the finished product?

KCW the 48 hour film festival is in Chicago this weekend, it's not too late to find a team to be on.

for anyone actually thinking about coming to my screening tomorrow (By that I mean Rex) it is at 9:00 pm at the Carnagie in Covington. Don't bother with the 6:15 showing of another group -it is fairly bad. However, group C (my group) has some fairly good ones this year. In addition to mine, there is a mocumentary about illegal immigration of Canadian geese that is one of the funniest things I have ever seen, and a deceint comedy about a man who falls in love with a chicken (no I'm not making that up).

Arrogcow, would you be able later to make The Kincade Kode available in some form? As you can infer from my avatar, I find the concept fascinating…

Adam, thanks for the heads up. How would I find a team? Probably too late, and the Games are here this weekend as well, but I might be able to help out. They would have to include my two daughters because Mom is out of town.

If somebody wanted to do a film with a lot of Scottish background and atmosphere, the Games would be the perfect venue.

Well, what a fun evening that was! The only bad thing was that I got stood up on my date, but I had anticipated this, anyway. How nice it was to meet Adam and his lovely wife! (I do recall her name, but since I don't know if it is permissible to use it here, I will refer to her as Mrs. Duke.)

When I arrived, an usher spotted me in my kilt and asked me where *my* wife was - he had mistaken me for Adam - I mean, really, how many guys do you find in Covington, KY, running about in kilts, anyway? On closer inspection, and after much assurance on my part that I've never been married, he could see that I was taller, older, grayer, and had considerably less hair. I explained that I was there at Adam's invitation.

The Dukes arrived a short while later, and we made acquaintance over drinks. Adam wore a Braveheart Warrior tank and roomy Freelander sporran. I was in my black UK mocker. Coincidentally, we both wore green shirts. As we made our way to our seats, Mrs. Duke admired my footwear, which I call my Fischer-Price Learn-and-Do Action Boots.

The films were introduced by the local producer of the program (I believe), who explained that each team had to write, film, and produce a short movie (seven minutes, max) in a particular genre (horror, comedy, silent, etc.), determined by random draw. Each film must include three elements: a prop (an egg), a character (Rev. Paul Schwartz), and a line of text ("That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard!").

Adam's recommendations, the immigrant geese mockumentary, the chicken love story, and his own Kincaid Kode, were far and away the best of the lot. One has to marvel at the amount of creativity that can be packed in to such a short amount of time. I don't even know where to begin on reviewing these - really, you just have to see them to understand them. There is probably a festival in a city near you.

On the way out of the Carnegie Center, I was asked what was up about the kilts, were we part of a RenFair thing or what? Nope, we're just friends who like to wear kilts, that's all.

Adam - thanks for the invitation - I really enjoyed the films and meeting you both. I forgot to give you my card - but let's get together again sometime before too long.

    Regards,
Rex in Cincinnati and sometimes Northern Kentucky
