Welcome from western North Carolina! If you really want to start out cheap for a trial there's always eBay! I got my first kilt there, and, while it's not a great kilt, it's perfect for sitting around the house or walking the dog…

Welcome from another Virginian. If money is a problem, I'd go with Rocky at USA Kilts and his philibeg model, or if you are close to 6' tall, Stillwater's standards are nice Kilts. I'm just shy of 5'10" and the 23" length Stillwaters fit me fine, I just have to wear them high on my waist.

that's what i was wanting, but i'm not set in stone

If i had the money for one, i would

Welcome from the Windy City! For $400 you can get a nice kilt from USAK, and still have money left over for the inevitable accessories.

    Cool

Welcome from North Dakota! You might check in with Matt at the Scottish Tartans Museum, He's a gold mine of information as well as a kilt maker.

    Again welcome and well met!
