I'm not real sure about the mony yet

Yes, i would like to get a tartan.

this is my family tartan http://kiltstore.net/material/gammell.html?id=4JSPBp3g

that's what i was wanting, but i'm not set in stone

not reall close to 6' tall. i'll look into the USA kilts

Welcome from the Windy City! For $400 you can get a nice kilt from USAK, and still have money left over for the inevitable accessories.

    Cool

Welcome from North Dakota! You might check in with Matt at the Scottish Tartans Museum, He's a gold mine of information as well as a kilt maker.

    Again welcome and well met!

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice but in practice there is.

Chech this one out, it is in your price range and in your family tartan. http://kiltstore.net/sr_swhdr_fiveya...tomeasure.html

While I love my 8 yard 16 oz wool traditional, I was happy to have more affordable kilts while I worked up to that point. A 5 yard wool kilt is different than an 8 yard, but it is still very nice and will serve you well.

You could also check these ones out. A quick email will likely confirm if Gammell is available

I was thinking about starting out with a 5 and working my way up.
could you list some pro's and can's of each?
