For 100's of years kilts have been washed by hand. Why take it to a cleaner and have noxious chemicals put on your clothing which will sit next to your body and also take out all the lanolin in the wool? Any other reasons to hand wash. That is a funny story.

They are tailors first and do dry cleaning as a service to their tailoring customers. Unfortunately when I buy a kilt off the rack I need the tailoring to get my length correct. She does a good job on my economy level kilts so I can tolerate the kilt vs. quilt discussions.

I have a similar experience when I wear my kilt to the local hibachi grill. They understand that it's a historical man's garment, but eh ... the sk**t word gets used.
