Welcome to the forum! I hate to jump in with a correction first thing, but I'm afraid the kilt was not brought to Scotland by the Vikings (nor the Irish, nor by any of the other groups that try to claim credit). It developed quite naturally within the Highlands of Scotland.
Would you mind explaining (or translating?) your screen name for us?
Surely! It is written in the black speach of Mordor, and it means something to the effect of Fire Spirit. Don't put anything much more into it, than the fact that I'm a great Tolkien fan!

I may have expressed myself too vaguely. I didn't intend to say that the kilt as we know it in Scotland originated from Scandinavia. But I have read several places, that it was propably influenced by the vikings manner of dress, and the name is old norse as well.
The dress the Vikings wore was undoubtably different from what the scots wear now, but I still think I can use a kilt to honour my own lineage, even though it's propably very different from how it was.

Great! Another J.R.R. buff! I suspected as much: (You'll note the "Smaug" in my own screen name )
