I had never really examined how kilts were worn before I got my first one, but it just seemed to make sense that the opening should go to the front. I mean, how many men's garment can you think of that open in the back?
Now, I could see a women making that assumption, since many of their skirts and other garments DO open in the back.
Maybe that's the answer.
"Honey, how does this go on?"
"Well, my skirt opens in the back, so maybe that does to."

I've always thught it made more sense to sit on the flat part and not wrinkle the pleats.
Of course, a well crafted kilt with quality pleatwork (to the sett of course), looks like its being worn backwards from the rear view.

These were no doubt rented kilts, the best man who picked them up didn't THINK to ask how in the world they worked, his wife told him and he told the groom and all the groomsmen. I think we figured it out! Blame it on the ladies!

When I was bartending one of my female customers left the bar with one of my male clients and came back with her jeans inside out and I asked her "I really want to know how you got your jeans zipped-up?" she left for the ladies
