That would work out great for me. I've already walked portions of the C&O while kilted.

Because the C&O is relatively flat, it would work out great for folks of different hiking ability. Plus, there are many good access points. And for those concerned about the "wilderness" aspect, a big part of the more westerly canal is very isolated.

I like Great Falls for ease of access this way folks can get back for any other activities and not be in the car all day.

Great pics! We have done our share of hiking in that area, usually involving Mt. Mitchell, although that was all BK. Would love to go back and do some now.

Barclay...I wish the surgery had already happened! I'm still waiting for my doc to return from vacation so he can do the cut and paste!

KCW...maybe you can come down next year for some Blue Ridge hiking! An official X-Marks "day hike and pub crawl" sounds too good. We've got plenty of both venues in the Asheville area. If you come in the summer Montreat offers a very excellent and reasonably priced day camp for the too-young-to-hike members of your family. Loads of shopping and other distractions for the spouses and others who may not want to hike.
