I had very much the same experience last week when the wife and I went "downy o'shun!" for the day. I borrowed a pair of swim trunks from my brother and was totally kicking myself for not just wearing a pair of my Adidas soccer shorts instead. That webbing on the inside is definitely constricting and oppressive if you're not used to such close quarters for your bits.
I did change into a kilt for our evening walk on the boardwalk and got a few stares, a few snickers, and manage to confuse one Irish chap who could not for the life of him understand why I'd want to wear a kilt on a daily basis. My wife had to practically swear on a Bible to make him believe that I did so.
I did, also, manage to put the thrill back into an elderly woman's life when the wind decided that it was time for me to play a game of "Show Me!". While I...well, while Miranda...caught it before it was full blown exposure, the woman behind me was grinning from ear to ear for the next five minutes. "Be still my beating heart!" she said as we laughed about it.
