Like many of the others I have not lost friends, but have gained friends. I'm also fortunate in that my wife fully supports me in wearing a kilt as my everyday attire - she will go with me anywhere while I am kilted.

I have a friend (pre-kilt) that does not like it when I wear the kilt. I have worn it to my lodge meetings and for some reason, he is offended. Now that I am going thru the chairs, I must wear a tux. He has told me several times that I can not wear the kilt while a lodge officer. Just you wait until I get the correct jacket. I'll show him. And I'm not so sure that my wife likes the kilt. She thinks I am showing off. I wanted to wear it to a family get together on the 4th, but my wife and the fact my home is not air conditioned changed my mind. I still wish that I had worn it.
