This reminds me of just how fast I used to go through a pair of pants at work. I no longer work, but was an industrial engineer by profession. I did quite a bit of walking most days - out to the production floor, back to the office, etc. I would estimate that I was lucky if a pair of pants lasted 6 months - the crotch would wear out. I probably spent more on pants per year than the cost of 2-3 UK Originals. I pay extra for my UK's because I'm a big guy.
I have no doubt that all my kilts will out live me. Also, when you pay for kilts such as UK's, and traditional wools you have invested in clothing that will have a fairly high resale value. I have $3300 invested in my kilts. When the time comes, I would not be surprised if my wife or children could sell them for at least 50-60% of their original value. You certainly can't do that with most pants. Come to think of it, you can't do that with most cars.
