has anyone lost friends?

I have not lost any. I have some who just don't get it, but they accept the fact that I pretty much do as I please.

He and I were "talking" through email this week where you really can't tell when someone is kidding and I took some of his comments seriously....that were not....and I flew off the handle and sent some "mean" emails and then I never heard from him after that.

I have known him since 1968 and I knew what that meant - he HATES discussing sensitive topics through email for just that reason - he kids around, I take him seriously, and it's downhill from there.

We talked today and he doesn't understand it, he would never do it, but he respects the fact that I'm just having fun in my own way. Then in the same breath he says if you are doing this why don't you go regimental so you can REALLY enjoy yourself.... :confused:

Nope, haven't lost any friends over my choice of clothing. My wife loves seeing me an a kilt as well, although she wasn't so understanding when I first started.

I've never lost a friend because I wear a kilt. But, I have discovered some very insecure persons who I no longer would consider as possible friends. My best friend is my wife, and she really likes me in a kilt.

A failed friendship is often the result of a breakdown in communications. Ones choice in attire usually isn't, unless the friend is shallow.

I hope you can fix it. I'm guessing that after 38 years, it's not going to end over this.

since we moved here we hae been tryin tae fit in wi' Emma's sisters clique o friends...

an ai think ai've had some trooble fitting in because o the kilt...

mai brither-in law is tae big a coward tae wear a kilt himsel ...sae, I guess, he disnae like thot ai wear yin... (ai ainly ken this through hersay... as he is tae 2 faced tae say anithin tae ma face... but he says a' sorts o nasty things aboot me behin ma back...)

shame some folk insist thot a' others conform tae the group norm...

then again... e'en withoot the kilt ai dinnae hae a low enough IQ tae fit in wi' this clique ...

sae- nay bother...

I have certainly not lost any friends through my kilt wearing, although some of my neighbours ignored me for a few months when I started wearing them full-time, seven and a half years ago. (I think they might still be a little concerned when they see kilted men getting out of their cars and coming to my house - but they say nothing! These are, of course, kilted friends who live in southern England or kilted internet brethren who are passing through the area. There's nothing untoward to be read into this, but I do wonder what the neighbours think!)

As for making friends as a result of my kilt wearing: I have not formed friendships with anyone I have met whilst wearing the kilt, but I have done so through the Internet and forums such as 'X Marks'. In fact, I will stick my neck out and state that my only true friends are guys I have met through this medium. Prior to my coming to the Internet, eight years ago, I had no close friends.

From my experience, I can only concur with the majority of folks here.

I've not lost any friends. Some family members have questioned me about it but have come to accept it. My wife & I have thoroughly discussed the issues over the past several years and have resolved what differences we had.

Like many others, I have actually gained friends and aquaintences. There is no other garment I have ever worn (save for a diaper when I was very young) that has encouraged women to make a fuss over me.
