Whats with all the kilts lately?
Walking to a concert last saturday, I heard a girl
exclaim to her boyfriend "Whats with all the kilts
lately?" Apparently there are a lot more men
in kilts around than I've noticed. Outside of
celtic events, I have seen exactly one kilt
in the last year. I don't know where they
are, but I guess they are out there.
As an interesting item, on the way back shortly
after midnight, there were many young couples
hanging out. (I'm usually in bed by 9:00 so
I don't know what this was about.)
So as I passed one couple the girl gives
me the goo-goo eyes bigtime. Her boyfriend
wasn't too happy and asked her why.
She said "He's wearing his kilt!"
Dang boys don't stand a chance against
us middle aged men unless they start
wearing kilts too.

Which concert?
There are a bunch of us kilted forumites on this site alone that are from Maryland. It's growing, to be sure.
I met a guy at the hardware store the other day who said he has two kilts.. I met a woman in a convenience store who stopped me and asked if kilts were the "latest" in men's fashion as she had seen another man wearing a kilt in Baltimore a couple of days before..
I have other stories, too, of kilt sightings...

Concert was Crack the Sky at the Rechter Theatre in Towson.
No one there besides me was wearing a kilt.
The only other kilt I've seen was at Catonsville
Community College. (I find it curious that
students there are more free-thinking than
those at Towson University. In spite of
having many times the number of students
not a single kilt.)

I last saw CTS at The Thunderdome about 4 years ago.. Good show!! Great Band!!
Anyway, it's growing. Especially in our area.. In what part of Md do you live? You should come to one of my band's shows.
Maybe I wouldn't be the only person wearing a kilt for once!!!

This is a simple issue to answer. Through our ( xmarkers) and our kilted bretheren's increasing visibility, we are starting to make an impact on the community at large. Based on what I am reading and seenng on the net ( especially the thread about usakilts getting a call from MTV), I wouldn't be suprised to see a whole lot more about kilts in the media as a whole.
keep wearing those kilts...maybe we can trounce the english after all!

I live in Harford County, Maryland.
It used to be a pretty rural place, but
has changed quickly in the last 20 years.
Still has some pretty old fashioned thinking
in some areas, but even there pretty
tolerant.
I wouldn't be surprised if I am the only
person in the county to wear a kilt outside
of formal and celtic events.
GTRMAN, whereabouts does your band
perform? What genre?

Robin Hood.....thats how I feel about County Carroll. Am I the only one that wears a kilt any time I can get away with it?

Similar experience here in Phoenix. Outside of Celtic Festivals or the Ren Fair, I've only seen 2 other men wearing kilts this year. However, last Friday, my chiropractor mentioned that she's told her husband about her kilted patient (me) & there's a gentleman at their church who regularly where's a kilt & then they sighted a kilted man while out shopping recently & her husband says, "Geez, these kilts are popping up everywhere!" (Let's hope he doesn't mean that literally. )

(I am only three-quarters English - the other quarter is true Scottish)
