Just to add to the last post, I actually have three Macneil of Barra kilts, two 4 to 5 yard casuals in the modern tartan, and The one 16oz 9yard MacNeil of Barra in the ancient colors from Locharron mills, ordered through Matt. I also have a modern Gordon semi traditional from Rocky at USA Kilts. My mother was a Gordon, and my middle name is Gordon. I'm currently a member of The House of Gordon, Va division. I was also a member of Clan MacNeil, but they have no chapters or activities anywhere near my location, so, other than the news letter, there was no real benefit to belonging.

I don't have one in my clans tartan (Baird modern) yet. It's hard to find that particular tartan at a fairly reasonable price.

My first tartan kilt was/is a 13 oz wool casual in MacLaren, modern colors, to honor that clan for their support of Scouting (I used to be a Beaver..., 2000, Camp Pupukea, Oahu, Hawaii.)
I have these tartans for kiltmaking: 18 oz wool Weathered MacLaren (same reason as above); 13 oz wool MacDonald of the Isles, old colors, to honor my wife's family; 10.5 oz cotton Muir/California, denoting my residence; and, 13 oz wool XMarksTheScot to celebrate this rabble... I mean, clan... here.

I do. My Craig tank ancient.

It was quite a fortune but going with the ancient brought out the colors. My next is a Kerr from my mothers side. There are many choices there.

Presently I have a 13oz 6yd in Ferguson Modern. In a few months I'll have my first 16oz 8yd in the Ferguson Weathered. Then eventually work my way through the rest of the family with the Biles (sept of Bell), Little, and McNeely (sept of ?). There is also an Outen but I can't determine the country of origin but I don't think Scotland.
 Cheers! Bill

Yep, I have a Bruce modern 13oz 8-yarder. My first kilt was a 16oz Bruce, but I have lost a good bit of weight and it is much too big for me now and I gave it to my father. (It may be reclaimed by me or my son in the future, tho!)

As for me, not yet, but I'm going for MacGregor, eventually, as my mother's mother's mother was a McGregor. I'm not crazy about the colors, but I've decided that this will be a special kilt for special occasions, so then red seems entirely appropriate.

I have other Scots in the woodshed, but none other to whom I feel as great a kinship.

In the meantime, I'll borrow someone else's.
