The decision you made was out of love, and your love, afterall, was all she ever asked for.

    Deepest condolence.

    The Rainbow Bridge
    By Steve and Diane Bodofsky

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.

    For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.

The greatest pain I've ever experienced came from making the decision you just made. It still brings tears to my eyes. I'm very sorry for you and yours for the loss of a true friend. Our condolences.

My condolences. Our pets become such an integral part of our lives, that it is very difficult when they have to leave us. Take some joy in the fact that she had 17 wonderful years with you and your family.

    Thanks.

Thanks to you all for your knd thoughts. It was a slightly quieter night around here last night...I know that it was the right thing to do.

When I was a little boy and my first parakeet died, my mom told me that when you die and go to heaven you get all of your pets back.

...with all of the critters that I've had, that's going to be interesting.

    Thanks again.

    Best

I'm very sorry for your loss. Dogs are not just pets but true companions. They show you unconditional love. Those scruffy terriers are wonderful. My daughter has a Yorkshire Terrier named Sammy, that we got for her before she graduated from high school. She is now of at college more than 300 miles away and Sammy went with her because she has an apartment. I miss him terribly. He would play with me for hours, and when I would set in our lounge chair he would crawl right up on my chest and go to sleep. He is just under 5 pounds, but has the heart of a lion. I had taken him for a walk one day when a lose Pit Bull came charging at us. Sammy was on a leash, but was ready to attack that Pit Bull. I nerver heard such ferocious sounds come out of a little dog - the Pit Bull turned away.
