That is a beautiful tartan, Erin. I just love those Irish 'greens'!
Now, if I might be critical for a moment?! ("Oh, here he goes again!"). I really think that a brown belt, especially with that beautiful buckle, and beige or oatmeal hose, would give your casual appearance a real lift.

Beautiful tartan and a nice kilt. And Ham beat me to it, always match the leathers. Either a brown belt or a black sporran (although more formal) would look better.
The kilt concealed a blaster strapped to his thigh. Lazarus Long

I agree with Hamish' style guidance. However, In this case I feel he missed the mark. You aren't dressing up, If you are going to be kilted and casual then it's o.k. mix leather colors and such. It's just like wearing suits (yes I do). After you've mastered the basics and feel comfortable, break some rules if you know you still look great. I say this after I spent yesterday making some matching belts and sporran straps without chains. O'Neille

Oh, I am all for breaking a few rules, O'Neille, when and where they exist, but there are none here. Here we have 'guidelines'. I don't mix my leather colours because I don't particularly like the look, nor do I want to appear to the world that I couldn't be bothered.
Alright, I am fortunate enough to have sufficient items that I don't need to mix. Not everyone is in the same position, I know that.

Thanks for the comments guys and I tend to agree with KCW and Hamish in that the brown is the obvious choice for this outfit, BUT I don't own one yet. I'm making one (designing it first, looking at knotwork) and will hopefully have it done soon. In the mean time I don't mind wearing the black, esp with the charcoal hose (cheers O'Neille). Not that I've got a choice in the matter ATM.
Of ther'll be pics of the belt when complete.
Speaking of pleat...I noticed the state of the back of the kilt, bloody shocking. Must remember to get my kilt pressed.

Hamish is right about the belt color but the over all look is still sharp.

Nice looking kilt.
I like the brass buckle. It will look great with your brown belt when you're done.
Cheers,
