There's a lot of great kiltmakers available here. It all depends on how much you want to spend and what material. Just compare apples to apples. Prices seem to vary but you are not always getting the same material. The toher factor is are they custom made for you or off the rack. Kilt makers that make them custom for your unique size charge a little more because they have to account for there time. Some are mass produced in the US and some are made off shore. I always feel better supporting North American made products if there not Scottish imports before anything else. That's just me!!.
A lot of casual kilt makers that use PV will also use anything from PV to wool if asked. As long as they can get the fabric in at a good cost and it's quality is good enough to use. I personally buy all my kilts from MacHummel at Canadian Casual Kilts He doas everthing custom from PV, denim, camo, etc. to machine stitched Wool.

Just compare similar products when you make your choice.
For example,
PV 5yrd to the same.
PV 8 yrd to the same.
5 yrd denim, camo, canvas to other like products.
6-8 yrd denim, camo, canvas to other like products.
5 and 8 yrd Acrylic to other like products.
5 yrd and 8 yrd wool hand stitched traditional
5 and 8 yrd machine stitched traditional style

If you are going for the punk look, you should get a Black Stewart from Stillwater Kilts.
