"I may be considerably older, Andrew, but I had only one kilt from 1973 to 1999. The Kollecting thing began in 2000 - only six years ago. So, you can still do it!!!"
Wow... that's a pretty hearty collecting appetite you have Hamish! You must be well into cash, or know all the right peoeple, or both. Lucky you!
So far I am up to:
1 cheapo thrasher, which I don't care about...kinda turned me off in regards to the company that sold it. Other products are OK, but I don't think I'd order another kilt from the firm.
2 SWK economy Gordons (clan affiliated), light, comfy and machine washable, nice for the warmer days
1 SWK heavyweight weathered Lamont... comfy as can be, with a slightly high rise on me.
1 Gordon Red Weathered/Muted (clan affiliation again, and I really like the look) belted plaid...still learning how to pleat, but getting better.
1 Muir modern belted plaid (coming in the mail still) anxious to see, this is associated with a family name.
1 Gordon Red Neo Kilt (in the works)
1 Ulster Red feilidh beag (wanted a lighter garment with respect to historical accuracy, loved the tartan pattern).
Of course the wish list will go on and on... I have a long wish list, as there are many tartans I like.... some of which are non-affiliated/district of course. I am even considering a Neo Kilt with tartan pleat and embroidery, as I don't own a modern style yet (ie: non tartan).
I guess that can be called a respectable start... maybe I'll be able to catch up one day Ham!
You know... I thought the idea of a full mask sporran to match the snake skin would have been a)awesome b)funny...
I showed my buddy some full mask sporrans recently, and aside from the fact that the price tag was high, he thought they were brutal (in the bada** sort of way... blatantly wearing a dead animal, depnding on the maker)... that's just sort of out sense of humour... a little twisted at times.
I wouldn't personally get a full mask sporran, as I like plainer accessories.... functional I guess is the best way to put it... nothing overly elaborate. Perhaps a dress sporran one day.
Perhaps a sporran with some light fur would look good with the "snake" kilt?
Alright, enough rambling!
