Johnny Celtic,
I was told from a very early age what Stuart's I was to wear as family tartans (Royal, Hunting and my fav. Black). There are a number of variables to the Stuart/Stewart's and quite a number of Stuart tartans. There are a lot of family's that have more than one because they may have some relatives with ties to the Royal but have there regional Stuart clan tartans they wore everyday. The Stuarts and there Septs were spread around and each region had ties to different tartans.
A well layed out family tree showed me where everyone from my family were and ended up. It's a long tree but it really maps out the ties to the tartans. Even I didn't realize how may variables to the Stuart/Stewart tartans there were.
