Kid Cossack - I was a little confused by your comment at first, because if you key 'Leatherneck' into the special search box within the Tartan Finder itself it seems to me to give quite a clear suggestion. But perhaps were you keying it into the 'main' site search at the top of the page? If so, you're right - that should also find close matches as well as direct matches, as happens within the Tartan Finder itself. So I've asked our techies to fix this too. Far from a 'minor issue', this is exactly the sort of feedback that's helpful, noticing bugs we've not spotted.

Oops. Somehow got accidentally listed as discontinued. (It's not.) I've just missed our upload deadline, but it will be back online next week!

Nick - Couldn't find the Polaris tartan. I understand that it is usually a special weave. I have seen the article on electricscotland and have received a swatch from a kiltmaker. I have also seen graphics on other sites that do not agree with the swatch I received. The blue stripe between the gold stripes is sky blue on the swatch I received.

The Polaris Military is one of a few hundred stragglers that I'm still slowly working through to get back online. I've just fixed it so should be on the site again next week. FYI, according to STA notes, one of our weavers says he wove the original piece for the submarine commander who commissioned it, and has since woven over 200 yards. He used Gold - Dark Blue - Sky Blue - Dark Blue - Gold. But the Polaris as woven by Lochcarron and supplied for sale on the Polaris base was yellow - green - ancient blue - green - yellow. The next weave in 1978 reverted to what is now regarded as the correct sequence YKBKY. I guess this is the root of your confusion!

I was referring to price per yard
Campbell of Cawdor Modern Tartan is just over $90
times 6 is $540, then to get it made into a kilt?
now I don't think this tartan is a very unusual one.
most kilt makers use this as a standard tartan,
along with black watch.

It was nice to see the St Columba and the MacWilliam tartans there on your site . You don't often see them at all.

phil h - unlike most kiltmakers we offer a wide choice of mills from which you can choose your tartan, and our systems are designed to tell you in advance of ordering exactly what each will cost for a particular kilt.
For Campbell of Cawdow Modern you could indeed pay the prices you quote if you really wanted to have it woven to order and picked the most expensive option, but you could also get it off the shelf for less than half that, with a superbly hand-made 8 yard traditional kilt coming in at about 340 US dollars!!
I'd be extremely grateful if you could explain to me what wasn't obvious to you in our selection process that you managed to miss this! If you key 'Campbell of Cawdor' into the search it returns 17 different materials we have available. It's true that the lowest price is on the second page (not obvious enough? thinks: probably). But even on the first results page there are Moderns a lot cheaper than what you quote. Your advice would be invaluable, as this is just the sort of misconception we'd love to iron out!
Much appreciated. :-)

Isn't the material 58 inches wide, normally they will buy 4 yards of the 58 inch material and cut it up the middle and sew the ends together to make 8 yards. If this is the case you only need 4 yards of the material to make an 8 yard kilt. It would be a good idea to note the width of the material on the site.
The modern patterns of the Campbell of Cawdor (also known as the District of Argyll) Tartan are very dark, if you are considering a kilt in this tartan, I would suggest getting an actual sample of the material. I have a kilt in this tartan, The green and blue do not show up very well in a photograph.
