Welcome from the highlands of North Atlanta.

You might try taking your wife with you to places like the Highland Games and Scottish Festivals where lots of guys are wearing kilts. She will see that you are not alone in your love for the kilt and that lots of guys do own and wear kilts. My wife doesn't go to the festivals with me but I take a lot of pictures to show her. As she becomes used to seeing the kilt on others she will become more comfortable with you wearing the kilt.

Don't push the envelope on the regimental bit, the battle isn't worth fighting with your wife. As Turpin said, honor her wishes, beside, there are also some benefits for you.

Welcome to the forum and the addiction! Memhpis is one of my fav. places to visit! Great people and great music!

Give your wife time and she'll become more comfortable with your kilt wearing. Nothing (including wearing a kilt) is worth making you home life an unhappy place! Just give her time.

I know your pain. My wife is not supportive at all. I'm using the perseverance method, where eventually all things give way. She is getting better, having stated that I actually looked good ( freshly pressed O'Neille) and two days ago went shopping with me.

    Patience and perseverance.

    welcome the the rabble!

And welcome from sunny Florida! As others have said, take your time and communicate with your wife. It will be better for all in the end.

Welcome from a Scot in England.

I first wore the kilt more than sixteen years ago. Even now, my wife is uncomfortable with me wearing it casually - she thinks it is eccentric to wear a kilt to go shopping, for instance. But she does approve of me wearing the kilt for formal occasions and to (Scottish) dance in, even in a public dance demo.

Essentially she approves when she knows that others have worn the kilt to previous occurrences of the event, not when I am (apparently) the first (and only one) to do so. But I keep on pushing the envelope - gently, patiently and persistently! Just don't give up.
