Hi McClef ... We too were at The Royal Welsh. What day did you go. We went on the Tues and apart from the guy at The Welsh Tartan Centre stand and myself, I saw no other Cilts that day. Did you see any other Cilts/kilts when you were there. Where abouts in South Wales are you by the way. Here's a couple of pics from the day that I posted back then.
We gate crashed a members only tent for some beers .. no one was there to stop us .. we got served straight away ... later though it took us flipping ages to get served at one of the main bars.

And of course The Welsh Tartan Centre stand

I do have a family line into Wales, it ties in downstream to my family line into Scotland. Family name was Kendricks. Orginally thought it was a sept of the McNaughton Clan until further research had that branch going into Wales.

Just another tartan or two to look into.

Derek, am I remembering correctly a post of yours about receiving a second welsh cilt some time ago? I may be thinking someone else, but I thought it was you. Just curious as I haven't seen any other pictures of it lately, so I thought it might actually be someone else.

I went on the Thursday, the last day of the show.

Like you I saw no other Cilts/Kilts that day apart from myself and the guy at the Welsh Tartan stand. He said that more people were hiring than buying but that business was gradually expanding. I don't think the prices they were charging at the show helped though - he showed me a casual St David's tartan cilt and that was over £100 when I have seen the same cilt advertised on their website for £79! Even a Welsh tartan tie was about £17.50!

He asked me for my clan which is Robertson and show me the Roberts Welsh tartan which is a lovely blue and something to bear in mind for the future!

I didn't bother with the beer tents and thought the best value refreshments were the ones in the flower tent - very WI in there!

I did get a smile and a wave from Elyn Rhys, the S4C TV personality, for my kilt though! I waved back!

The annoying that was that I lost my kilt pin somewhere amongst the milling crowds through people brushing against it. I have since taken steps to make my remaining ones more secure!

I live in the valleys, the Ebbw Fach town of Abertillery (Abertyleri) and the locals seem to have got pretty used to seeing me in my kilt - just as well as I am kilted approx 4 days a week and this could grow with the new ones I have on the way!

I took quite a few pics of the show which are on my photo blog site www.fotothing.com/cleftref but you would have to scroll through the archives to find them as I haven't put them on another hosting site like flickr.

    Where in Wales are you?
