The gentleman doesn't know it yet ... but what he was showing was unprocessed jealousy. Envy. Covetousness. (Of the kilt, that is, not you.) His subconscious was so wrapped up in how he too might wear a kilt, that the part of the brain that tells him not to stare dumbstruck was bypassed completely. It will take him a while, but it will click for him eventually.
