Splendid photos, McClef. I didn't get to Edinburgh this year but, in all the visits I have made there in recent years, summer or winter, that same 'Braveheart' fellow has always been there on the pavement outside Geoffrey (Tailor) 's Old Town Weaving Mill, immediately below The Castle Esplanade. I think he garners most of his charity donations by charging for posing for tourists' cameras.
You were lucky to get Greyfriars Bobby all to yourselves. Last time I was at that statue, one had almost to fight to get near it!!

Thanks Ham
Yes that's where he was. I had just had a look round the Geoffrey Taylor shop after returning from the Esplanade where the tourists were waiting to be parted from their cash to get in the Castle - it used to be free, apart from if you wanted to go in the museums!
I also looked at the other Taylor shop they have near the house of J*** K**x (not my favourite character lol) as I was hoping to see the 21st Century Kilts section, but it was locked.
In the old days I never had a problem getting near the Bobby statue and I didn't on this occasion either even though it was a Saturday. For the first time ever I went into the kirkyard and saw his grave, strewn with fresh flowers, there were no flowers on that of his master John Gray ("Auld Jock"). It was very moving somehow, probably bringing the book by Eleanor Atkinson and the Disney movie back to mind.
Bobby's grave:
