I disagree . . .

I LOVE tea (esp. sweet ice tea), but HATE coffee!!!

BUT, that is a whole other topic . . .

As for kilts, solid belted plaids (particularly in red) and kilts (particularly in tweed) are well documented as quite old, BUT in a traditional cut.

To me the difference is the cut, meaning the waist, the taper, and the width of the aprons. BOTH can be either tartan or solid.

Traditional:
high waist (belly button area)
wide apron
tapered for close fit

Modern:
pants waist
"narrow" apron
little to no taper (not much needed for the close proximity of rump to waist)-> often this taper is an two or four big darts, as opposed EVERY pleat on a traditional kilt.

As for the pleat style, either can be knife/side pleated (like most traditionals AND moderns) or box pleated (as in Matt and my traditionals and the modern X Kilt).

The above is an attempt at definition clarafication (esp. for the more newbie among us).

My preference is STILL for traditionals in tartan wool, but I have developed respect for other modern ones and may someday (in the distant future . . . maybe . . .) get one (or make one in a tartan).
