I think people don't realise that there are many different "strengths" of velcro. There is the cheap light weight stuff that sells for light duty decorative use on one end of the spectrum and then there is heavy duty military spec velcro found on scuba, mountain biking, and military combat gear and flight suits. The velcro on the USA kilts casuals is absolutely on the heavy duty end of the spectrum.

Just wanted to chime in regarding the velcro thing. I've worn my USAK casual to two Celtic society events and at both I have had the same reaction from guys who own nothing but traditional tanks: "Wow, that's sharp." They look at it and realize it doesn't have straps and they get confused. They too equated velcro with "one size fits all". My USA kilt is fashioned for my body and the velcro holds a treat. I'd feel nervous about velcro too if the kilt was a one size fits all, but with these I don't think you'll have a problem. And the look is just spot on.
