			Buckles and straps?

Anyone have recommendations for sources for buckles and straps?
 I have come across these:

Highland Xpress http://www.highlandxpress.com/bucklestraps.html has them in 3 sizes, 3/4'', 1'' and 1 1/4'', at good prices, $1.50, $1.75 and $2.50, and with FIVE holes on the strap. Shipping and handling within the US would be $5.50 for three.

L&M Highland Outfitters http://www.landmhighland.com/default...typ=31&pid=469 also offers buckles in three sizes, but with only three holes in the strap. The buckles look nice. No price is given. Not many retailers who sell their merchandise are listed on their site.

Stillwater http://pro.channeladvisor.com/storef...9&aid=36798142 sells sets of three for $11, $5 postage in the US, good price, it seems. They come in only one size, 1.25 inches, and have four holes. The buckles look nice, but the edges of the straps look as if they might be rather roughly cut, from the photographs.

I usually make my own straps from 5/6 ounce leather. I'd have to be at home to show you where I get my buckles.
 Good prices listed there, though.

The Stillwater straps are nice. I used them on my two kilts. The good thing is that you can get them pretty quick.

I occasionally make straps and such out of leather. You can use Fiebing's Tan Kote to seal the edge and back of the strap or Edge Kote to seal just the edge and eliminate the fuzzies on the straps. I usually just wipe on a coat of Tan Kote to cover all surfaces - front, edge and back. See http://www.fiebing.com/default.htm for manufacturer info; their products are usually available at your local craft or hoby shop.

From the pictures, it looks like the straps edges are cut smoothly - it's just the fuzzies on the back of the strap peeking out beyond the edge. They'd probably get smoothed away by normal wear after a time as well.

The straps and buckles from Highland Express are very good quality and you should recieve them within a few days after your order. They are pretty quick.

These are a bit more expensive but the edges are slicked and sealed and 5 oz. leather. The ones shown are 1-1/2" wide x 8" long, with 6 holes

Those are indeed nice looking, and the 8 inch length with six holes would be great for those of us with accordian bellies who loose and gain weight with the seasons.

I have a bunch of Cavscouts straps and buckles and they are awesome.
I got them for kilts which look better with brown straps and brass buckles.

Cavscout and I are working on modifying them slightly as the current buckle is quite large.

As far as I know these are the only brown/brass kilt straps out there.

Great quality, great value for your money.

If you need a less expensive strap and buckle the lower one in the picture is from highland xpress. They are the industry standard in North America. They are what Barb uses and what I normally use till Cavscout finds a source for the same size buckle.

I've used the Stillwater buckles three times and will have them on my next three kilts. too. I want to swap out the buckles/straps on my MacNaughton kilt..black/silver for brown/brass, so I'll be looking for straps and hardware atthe various leatherworkers stands at street fairs and so on..
