Sounds like you need to delve into your family history a little deeper...Scots, Irish, Welsh...all prolific and liable to turn up on a lot of family trees in unexpected places.
 
If truely no, then there are many commerative tartans - were you in the service?  Does your university, state, city, company you work for have a tartan?  There are many fashion tartans - tartans developed for sale rather than as a clan affiliation. There are bazillions of solid color kilts too.
 
But you can also wear most any tartan you wish, if, as pointed out its worn with pride and respect.
