I still don't recommend anything other than water free Vasaline. Wax gets old and can flake if too much is applied. Vasaline has no colour or oder and is easy to apply with a finger or too. I've tested waterproofing wax it darkens the leather which may be not what you want with a brown leather. With black it's OK However Vasaline does offer some waterproofing too.

I'll put in a vote for the Buzz Kidder stuff. I have one of the "Rob Roy" sporrans in brown, and it is decently sized inside, and looks fine on the outside. My favourite piece... and all of my second sporran. It isn't super fancy, but I tend to like simpler things. So, yeah, chalk up another BK recommendation.

I have 2 Buzz Kidder sporrans. You now know where I work, and aren't far (mile wise) from where I live. You could see if the Buzz Kidder's are large enough.

Then don't apply too much. The wax I suggested is quite soft and does not "flake". The point of wax is to offer some form of protection. Some leathers like shell Cordovan would be ruined by oil or saddle soap. One should never use too much wax but just enough. A thin layer correctly applied looks best.

With shoes, for instance, I nearly always advise that one use a good paste wax polish (if need be self-formulated as in many places its become nearly impossible to get an acceptable paste wax), and not shoe cream. Shoes creams (and only really the best which are lanolin based and don't contain any silicone) have, in my opinion, mainly their place in skilled hands as a "lubricant" to "fix" nicks with a shoe bone but not as a general polish.

I don't know if its really off-topic since part of the art of highland dress is the care and maintenance of ones regalia. Even with day wear I feel the same level of attention should be placed on hose, shoes, sporran, jacket and bonnet as upon kilt.
