			Two Nice Kilted Encounters

					Number 1:
So I decided that I was finally gonna go BUY some single malt. I've tasted a few at PiperGeorges' place, had a few sips here and there and went though 4-5, including Johnnie Walker Black label and Green label at my local Clan Conveners house (those are blends). My favorite? Aberlour.

I am pleased by the fact the Pour1Malt lists Aberlour as one of his recommended starter whiskys. I'm also thinking about a bottle of Highland Park. SO....... I wander into the local Beltramo's, a seriously upscale liquor store in my town. Of course I have the kilt on.

Within minutes there are six guys around me; the store manager, two staff and we're all talking and talking some more. The manager brings out a bottle of the Highland Park that the store ordered.....that's right, they ordered a barrel, twelve years ago, and we're all tasting a special bottling of Highland Park 12-year, right there.

I had to buy a bottle you know? It was, get this....Thirty one bucks.

But if I'd 'a come in there in pants, would they have done that? Fat chance.

I also bought a bottle of 10-year Aberlour, for a rip-snorting twenty-seven bucks. What a deal. So while I was sewing pleats last night, I had a dram of Aberlour by me side.....

 Life could be worse.

 *~*~*

 Encounter number two:

It's about 5:15 PM and I'm outside in the gloaming (I like that word, "gloaming". I bet Panache likes it, too) about to get the mail. Down the street comes a couple walking their dogs. Suddenly the women cries out..

 "It's Him, it's HIM".

uh.....what? Well one of the neighbors had told her that someone on our street wears a kilt...That'd be ME.

So it turns out that she'd been to a company Thanksgiving Party and one of the guys showed up in a kilt. She says the women went nuts, and right in front of her husband she says that she and four other women couldn't take their eyes off of him....

"I'm getting you a kilt for Christmas".... the poor guy expected none of this and is standing there wondering what hit him.

We chatted, I told her about all the usual kiltmaking culprits on this board and found out they were new neighbors down the street. I assured the guy that in fact, kilts were chick magnets and he laughed.

I think we might have a new kiltie on 8th. Avenue, soon.

 Fun stories.

We have to coordinate who is bringing what scotch to Burn's Night.

I asked Pour1Malt for some advice on scotch tasting and he was kind enough to send me a pm with some basics for the newbie scotch taster.

Beverages and More sells the Aberlour 10 year for $thirty two bucks. I was shocked that Beltramo's beat them. Belt's is really close to my house, and they literally had a wall of single malts so that where I'll be going.

The regular price on Highland Park 12-year is thirty-six bucks, but because this was a special bottling, and they bought the entire cask they can offer it for a little bit less.

I haven't tried it yet, but the manager says that it's his favorite "all-around, pleases everybody" whisky.

					Great stories Alan,
And thanks for a new word...

Not to get off track, but you got me to wondering how many brands of whisky there are with a kilted guy on the label somewhere....probably a chore, like trainspotting, to round them all up.
