I have to admit that I was a dyed in the wool, eight yard Scottish kilt type up to a point but I finally broke down and ordered one the SWK's standards and then I ordered another since the first one was so comfortable. If you have a problem with wool you won't be sorry that you tried the PV, I'm not.

Another option in solid colour kilt is hemp. Long lasting, and wonderful swish.

Chris.
As a small correction, SWK Standards are Acrylic, not PV.

I have mentioned this before I love PV. Its cost ,look and more importantly the swish is awesome, also I'm love the poly/cotton solid kilt I wear those for everything, Rocky, Bear ,myself, specialize in PV but don't for get about Rkilts and all the other kilt makers out there that are to answer any of your questions.

I guess that shows how much attention that I payed to it. Maybe I'll have to get a PV now to compare.

Looks like everyone answered this one well. There is choices out there in PV that are durable, wearable and make a real nice traditional alternative. We are blessed with some really great kiltmakers right here on this site. You have
MacHummel (can't wear wool either- rashes up something fierce) at Canadian Casual Kilts makeing trad. style kilts in PV, poly- cotton solids and camo, duck cloth indestructables, Denim and wool.
Robert at R-kilts making hemp solids,Denim and the most beautiful leathers in a contemporary utility style( better custom quality and fit than UK I think)
Bear and USAK make PV in there style
Barb for wool Trad handsewns
Matt Newsome for his becoming very popular box pleats.
etc. etc,
They all make a unique product that covers all posible styles in the best quality craftmanship and materials. There's lots to choose from if you can't wear wool but still want a custom garment.

Kilted Knight,
I don't think there is any comparison of PV to Acrylic. MacHummel and I checked out a East indian Acrylic import this summer. I just don't like the feel of the material. PV has a tighter weave, less fuzzy, more like wool. Almost all are machine washable (holds up well to washing) and teflon treated to repel stains. And you can't beat a custom kilt compared to off the rack.
The PV they are weaving these days is as close to wool as you can find.
I love wool but PV is my second choice then canvas duck or poly cotton.

Here's the long answer. Go to www.USAKilts.com and look over their wares. Go to Hamish's webpage and look around for his USA kilt. Talk to Riverkilt on this board about the USA kilts. Heck, ask me about the USA kilts. Call Rocky and Kelly, talk to them. Look for a semi-trad and you'll have a kilt that fits you just as well as a hand-made-to-your-dimensions wool traditional, only in poly-viscose.
PV is not as heavy as wool, but it looks good, swings good, hangs good, cleans good----it's just good.
USA Kilts, my man.
Rocky and Kelly.
You can't hardly go wrong.
They'll hook you up.
Thanks for the link, I may get my MacPherson tartan from them. Beats other prices I've seen.
