I belong to the Ancient Order of Hibernians in America and can testify that my Irish friends cover the full rnage of heights and weights. Stereotypes tend to come from somewhere but I've never heard that the Irish are a short people. My father was 6'2" and I'm 5'11". My wife is Irish and is about 5'8" but my mother is a shortish 5'2". You just have to take some comments with a grain of salt.
In my old high school we had an assistant principal (later principal) named Fr. Riley - definitely Irish - and he was something like 6'7"...they used to have him stand by the front door on the first day of class...probably to scare the hell out of the incoming freshmen...the first example of "shock and awe" that I ever encountered.
This begs the question as to where they found black cassocks big enough for this giant-among-Jesuits. Seeing this guy standing there wearing a long black cassock was sort of like being around the monolith from the movie 2001.
