Wow, that looks horribly cold...and I say that as a Canadian! I haven't thought about tobogganing in a kilt. After seeing your red shanks I don't think I will! 
"Red shanks"... Isn't that what the lowlanders used to call the highlanders? I guess it doesn't really matter, I'll take what you said as a compliment! If your shanks don't get red in that kind of weather than you must be doing something wrong (or have really bad circulation!).
