Most people wouldn't take that risk. Glad it paid off for them and no harm came to you or your family.
In my years of crisis work met far too many like that and there are far too few services - even in the large cities.
If a more folks had your guts to risk trusting folks in need maybe we could reduce the problem.
Dated a lady for many years who was a clinic nurse at a homeless medical clinic in Phoenix. She used to point out that most of use are just a paycheck away from homelessness.
