I swear by my Cooper A-2 in goatskin - at $200 not cheap, but hard to beat the real thing. BTW, Cooper (who made the A-2 for the military when they were still issuing them) has closed their doors; jackets are still in stock at http://www.bestglide.com/cooperpage.htm - but they will sell out soon.
